Don’t Do These 2 Things

(Listen to this post, here.) I arrived at my office yesterday morning as always. But I kept on going, until I drove eight more miles, wandering aimlessly through my little town. Why? Because the odometer of my 2013 Ford Focus read 99991, and I wanted to see it when it reached 99999. I knew I’d forget to look if I didn’t make a deliberate effort, so I drove around until I reached this impressive milestone (see photo). I’m quite pleased that my car has fared so well with few needed repairs, […] Click to read more…

Crystal Blue Persuasion

(Listen to this post, here.) I ordered the Vegetarian Stir Fry: “Linguine tossed with sauteed broccoli, mushrooms, onions, finished with sesame ginger sauce and homemade sriracha aioli.” It seemed like a safe choice. Only it wasn’t. One bite and I knew that it was WAY too spicy for me. My bald head began sweating immediately (TMI?). Was the description of the dish on the menu accurate? Absolutely.  After all, as anyone can tell you after they return home, dip their tongue in a bowl of ice water, and google the word “sriracha,” this is […] Click to read more…

Profanity in Your Newsletter?

(Listen to this post, here.) Here in the twenty-first century, everyone claims to “have no time.” The accepted wisdom, therefore, is that if you want anyone to read your newsletter, watch your video, attend your presentation, etc., it’s got to be super short. Busy, busy, busy – none of us has even a minute to spare. Unless … it’s a podcast. In that case, we all suddenly have three hours available. I don’t understand it, but I admit that I am not immune to this trend. Like you, I now have a […] Click to read more…

The Bigness of Smallness

(Listen to this post, here.) According to extensive research that I have been conducting for nearly five minutes, celebrated author Stephen King has a net worth of 500 million dollars. Just to give you a sense of how big a number that is, it’s more than the combined net worth of Taylor Swift ($400 Million) and me. All in all, not bad for a guy who’s earned a living by making things up. Not only that, but it’s a terrific business model since his costs consist of nothing more than a desk, […] Click to read more…

Different is Better Than Better

(Listen to this post, here.) My sister-in-law Kathie and her husband live a couple of hours away from us in Western Massachusetts. So, my wife and I occasionally get together with them for a hike someplace inbetween. Such was the case last weekend when we met at Purgatory Chasm State Reservation, a place that, while certainly not paradise, is not hellish either. (Oh, I guess that makes sense then.) In addition to the woods and trails that you would expect to find, it is also filled with interestingly named, natural rock formations, […] Click to read more…
