Thanks for covering this subject. I’ve had mine set up for a couple of years. It’s sort of embarrassing or maybe a little frustrating when no one else has theirs show in the comment list.

So nice to see everyone’s pretty faces here! What a difference it makes when everyone has a photo. Feels more like a community! Glad it worked.

Thanks for the ongoing great tips, Michael.
You’re a dangerous combination – witty, warm and wonderful!
But don’t let that swell your head or it may not fit in your Gravatar.

But of course, Jim! The mighty Gravatar plays no favorites. (Sounds like a second-tier super hero.)

Oooh! I’ve already done the Gravatar thing, but I’m definitely going to take a peek at screencast-o-matic.com. I’ve been wanting a way to do what you just did here, Michael. Thanks for the unintentional tip!

Roy, in my experience, screencast-o-matic (in addition to sounding like a 1950s toaster) can be a bit temperamental. But when it works it’s great. If you have a problem, try a different browser.

    Hey Michael,
Tried to tweet this and include your @twittername – only, it doesn’t come up when I cilck your bluebird above… ???

Maybe a good subject for your next tip? 😉

    Cheers!

    Hey there

    Really enjoyed.

Just thought I’d mention that I tried to “like” on FB but get an error message about needing meta tags on page….
    May just be my set-up.

    Thank you!

Good morning Michael– thank you – something strange I experienced– I could not see the gravatar at all, I thought it hadn’t worked but when I look today, they are all there. Is there a simple explanation for that? I thought I would post this to keep others from bombarding you with messages when they can not see their own gravatar.

Hi Sandy! I don’t know for sure, but delays are pretty normal for things to cycle through. Could be that you couldn’t see it until you refreshed your browser (I saw all your photos yesterday morning when I responded).

In any case, should be popping right up for you going forward as soon as you post (provided you always use the same email address, which is what is tied to your gravatar).

Well, I’ve been cool for a while (especially with my professional headshot, used to look more like a deer in headlights!) but let’s see if it works here on your uber-cool list of shining faces.

Hi Michael! Remember me? That’s ok…

Love this post and I’ve found that the link out works best for me, as well. Off topic a bit, and maybe you’re discussed this previously, but…why do you have the blog *date* in your subject line?

    Michael,
Thanks for the reminder! I actually HAD a gravatar account and it hasn’t worked for a while — not like it would be connected to the information I enter… obviously, it IS possible to hide on the internet. But it’s all hooked up now, and I’m sure it will work until my next brain fart.

      Omigosh!
Maybe it’s more than a brain fart, since it didn’t work.
Out of everything I could enter in the two pages WordPress.com lets me edit, what is the ONE piece that connects my comment to my gravatar?

        Hi Allison!
It’s tied to your email address – whichever one you used when you set the Gravatar up. So make sure the email you used when you posted your comments here is the same!

Started the process… stopped before finishing. I see you have comments from 2011… I think gravatar may have upgraded/updated their policy. Although it says FREE… They stick Trial period and then slap monthly charge. I’m uncomfortable presuming if I only download a single photo and never change it….do I slide under being charged…or do I find myself scrambling to unsubscribe in order to terminate being charged every month?

I’m grabbing a cup of coffee and still considering it.

Holy Smoke… an older photo of me appeared. I guess that’s ok… I haven’t really improved my appearance (I’m the guy with the shorter ears.)

      Hi Joseph!
This is the first I’ve heard of the possibility of a fee from gravitar, but yes, it’s been several years since I set this up. If they do, I would guess there are other (free) services that offer something similar.
In terms of the old photo, you can update that if you like (but it’s a nice one!).

Thanks, Michael! I’m feeling really cool now but I’m not sure if it’s the Gravatar or the single-digit number on the thermometer tonight 😉

Hi Ramona! Good question and the answer is I don’t know. I’ve found it to be email specific (so if you use more than one email address to post comments you’d need to do this for each address) and consistent (whenever I post anywhere, the same photo comes up).
