Have you ever wondered how cool people include their cool photos when coolly posting their cool comments to other people’s blog posts?
Today’s Insightful Insight explains how, in one easy step (maybe two).
Click below to watch this remarkable one minute and 33 second video (don’t tell me you’re too busy; I saw you hanging out on Facebook earlier).
P.S. After you’ve done this, come back here and post a comment and see if it works!
Thanks for the tip. Let’s see if it works here.
Ok – done :D! I’m testing, too. I really appreciate all the advice/suggestions.
Thanks for covering this subject. I’ve had mine set up for a couple of years. It’s sort of embarrassing or maybe a little frustrating when no one else has theirs show in the comment list.
Well, apparently it isn’t set up any more. I’ll have to do it again.
Aha – tied to email address and I have a new one! Testing it now.
Wish I looked like Brad Pitt.
Love the tips! You made me stop, listen and learn…very nice!
So nice to see everyone’s pretty faces here! What a difference it makes when everyone has a photo. Feels more like a community! Glad it worked.
Michael
Testing the Gravatar. Thank you for all the tips.
I see you Cathy!
Pretty cool, thanks Michael!
Thanks so much! I have one and it appears sometimes and not other times. Now I know why…the email address. You’ve been a huge help today!
Pardon me for trying to figure out which email I have associated with the gravatar currently. So sorry!
Thanks for the ongoing great tips, Michael.
You’re a dangerous combination – witty, warm and wonderful!
But don’t let that swell your head or it may not fit in your Gravatar.
You forgot “weird!” (thanks Terry!)
Great tip, Michael. Thanks.
Wow that was easy, thanks!
Michael,
Well, here’s moment of truth…will my Gravatar work from Canada???
Great tip…thank you
Jim
But of course, Jim! The mighty Gravatar plays no favorites. (Sounds like a second-tier super hero.)
OK Michael, thanks for the valuable tip, will test this out! Love your wonderful sense of humor :-))
Oooh! I’ve already done the Gravatar thing, but I’m definitely going to take a peek at screencast-o-matic.com. I’ve been wanting a way to do what you just did here, Michael. Thanks for the unintentional tip!
Roy, in my experience, screencast-o-matic (in addition to sounding like a 1950s toaster) can be a bit temperamental. But when it works it’s great. If you have a problem, try a different browser.
Will do! Do you have better results with IE, Firefox, or Chrome? (Or Safari?)
Firefox has worked best for me, Roy
I was wondering how people had their photos next to their comments….aha!
Thanks Michael…
Hey Michael,
Tried to tweet this and include your @twittername – only, it doesn’t come up when I cilck your bluebird above… ???
Maybe a good subject for your next tip? 😉
Cheers!
Thanks Ariane. I’ll have to see about getting that fixed. My twitter handle is @michaeljkatz
Can’t help myself. Addicted to your email tips and tricks. Let’s hope my customers feel the same way about my heavily “Michael-influenced” emails!
Thanks Michael! I wondered how to do this but did not want to spend the time to find out. You made it quick and easy. Many thanks!
How wonderful and practical.
I don’t suppose you have an ideas on getting young children to sleep?
I’m a marketer, not a magician. Have you tried Jack Daniels (for you, I mean)?
Trying another
Nope… try this
Thank you for the great tip!
Hey there
Really enjoyed.
Just thought I’d mention that I tried to “like” on FB but get an error message about needing meta tags on page….
May just be my set-up.
Thank you!
Juliet
Merci beacoup. We’ll leave you on the hill for at least another inning.
Appreciate the vote of confidence, coach!
Very cool.
This was very helpful
Just had to try it out. Super helpful. Thanks bunches!
Beautiful R U! Nicely done.
Thanks Mike for the tip. just did it for myself and 2 clients. They will be very happy!
Cool! Now I’m not a gray shadow anymore. thank you!
Sandy
Oh no, I am still gray, prematurely of course. I must have done something wrong…………..
Let’s see if the magic wand worked this time………….
ok, I’m going to hide now………..so embarrassing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Touche!
Good morning Michael– thank you – something strange I experienced– I could not see the gravatar at all, I thought it hadn’t worked but when I look today, they are all there. Is there a simple explanation for that? I thought I would post this to keep others from bombarding you with messages when they can not see their own gravatar.
Hi Sandy! I don’t know for sure, but delays are pretty normal for things to cycle through. Could be that you couldn’t see it until you refreshed your browser (I saw all your photos yesterday morning when I responded).
In any case, should be popping right up for you going forward as soon as you post (provided you always use the same email address, which is what is tied to your gravatar).
Michael
Top tip!
Thanks Mike (also thanks to Katherine Andes from ‘Andes and Associates’ for pointing me in your direction)
My pleasure, David. Nice to see your face alongside your comment!
I heard about Gravitar from a close friend Kathy Andes. She learned it from you nice find thanks
that didnt work so hopefully this will
Looking good Herman!
Thanks Michael – I enjoy your communication style. Regards, PM.
Your photo looks great, Peter!! Glad it worked for you.
Hoping this worked. It was simple to do and thanks for the tip!
I can see your smiling face, Margaret!! Congrats.
not sure if this worked or not, but here goes!
AWESOME!! Thanks so much for the great tip!!
great advice now for the all important test!!!
Paul and Joyce, you are both looking great!
Thanks for the tip Michael.
Well, I’ve been cool for a while (especially with my professional headshot, used to look more like a deer in headlights!) but let’s see if it works here on your uber-cool list of shining faces.
Pretty simple. Thanks, Michael!
Nicely done, Linda, Sharon and Jeff! I can see your smiling faces from way over here.
Michael
Great tip. Thank you for this.
Looking good, Kelly!
OK…does it work?
Ta-dah!
Very nice, Scott!
Thanks for the information, Michael
Nice tip, Michael. Thanks!
Looking good, Sally!
Thanks Michael! Looking forward to more great tips via your newsletter 🙂
I see you!!
I think it worked…unless I look like Justin Bieber.
You are totally unBieber-fied. Nicely done, Michael!
Good way to find out if mine still works. Helpful vid. Easy to sign up.
Glad it was helpful, Jim. U R looking good!
I think it works. Does it?
It sure does! You Rock, Mr. Katz!!
I’m trying Lesli! You do as well.
Hi Michael! Remember me? That’s ok…
Love this post and I’ve found that the link out works best for me, as well. Off topic a bit, and maybe you’re discussed this previously, but…why do you have the blog *date* in your subject line?
Your helpful hints are handy. Thanks!
Thank you Kristine, and your photo looks good! Congrats.
Michael,
Thanks for the reminder! I actually HAD a gravatar account and it hasn’t worked for a while — not like it would be connected to the information I enter… obviously, it IS possible to hide on the internet. But it’s all hooked up now, and I’m sure it will work until my next brain fart.
Allison
Omigosh!
Maybe it’s more than a brain fart, since it didn’t work.
Out of everything I could enter in the two pages WordPress.com lets me edit, what is the ONE piece that connects my comment to my gravatar?
Hi Allison!
It’s tied to your email address – whichever one you used when you set the Gravatar up. So make sure the email you used when you posted your comments here is the same!
Michael
You mean like this? *fingers crossed* — even though it’s not the one I’m using now?
Just goes to show how important superstitions are! (I had my legs crossed too! And my eyes.)
Looking good, Allison!
Started the process… stopped before finishing. I see you have comments from 2011… I think gravatar may have upgraded/updated their policy. Although it says FREE… They stick Trial period and then slap monthly charge. I’m uncomfortable presuming if I only download a single photo and never change it….do I slide under being charged…or do I find myself scrambling to unsubscribe in order to terminate being charged every month?
I’m grabbing a cup of coffee and still considering it.
Holy Smoke… an older photo of me appeared. I guess that’s ok… I haven’t really improved my appearance (I’m the guy with the shorter ears.)
~joseph
Hi Joseph!
This is the first I’ve heard of the possibility of a fee from gravitar, but yes, it’s been several years since I set this up. If they do, I would guess there are other (free) services that offer something similar.
In terms of the old photo, you can update that if you like (but it’s a nice one!).
Michael
Ah!
Wait. Am I officially cool?? : )
Officially cool Steve! (With all the caveats that come with that at our age, of course!)
Good advice. I’ll give it a try.
Testing…1…2…3! I am smarter today!
Let’s try again!
Looks great, Angela!!
Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for the Gravatar instructions! Nice to see all the beautiful people here 🙂
Laura
Neat stuff! Thanks for the tip!
Looks good, Denise!!
Thanks, Michael! I’m feeling really cool now but I’m not sure if it’s the Gravatar or the single-digit number on the thermometer tonight 😉
Thanks for the tip Michael!
Well done. Robin!
Remember, you asked for it!!!! Thanx….wondered how folks did that, and now, thanks to you, I wonder no more! Thanx again! ~Paul~
Welcome Paul! Good to see you on the page.
Interesting – will en.gravatar.com once they have your photo and email, will they override other photos you manually add to accounts?
Hi Ramona! Good question and the answer is I don’t know. I’ve found it to be email specific (so if you use more than one email address to post comments you’d need to do this for each address) and consistent (whenever I post anywhere, the same photo comes up).
I should already have one set up. Let’s see if I set it up right. If not, I’ll come back and watch the video and try again.
Thanks Michael, spot on as usual!
Looking good, Bonnie!
Great tip Michael. Thanks!
My pleasure, Ed! Nice photo (I seem to remember seeing it on the back flap of a fabulous book recently…..)
OK then, did it work???
🙂
Indeed!
Thanks for the tip. I think it worked.
Indeed, I believe it did!
5…4…3…2…1
Presto?
I’m somebody! I’m somebody!
And such an attractive somebody you are! Congrats.
Thanks for the tip – it was easy to set up.
Looking good, Dave!
Thanks. Great idea!
Your picture is so nice, it seems to have appeared twice! Glad it’s working, Lisa.
Thanks for sharing. Great idea!
Hat off, sharing your great experience.
But where is your photo? I don’t see it here.
I changed my pic — did it work?
Indeed. Looking good, Michelle!
Hi Michael, I am no longer shadow, thanks for your tip.
I see you, Jeffrey!!
Another one testing it out–fingers crossed!
Hooray! Thank you, Michael–I’d been wondering how to do that.
Looking good, Stephanie!
Let’s give it a try . . .
Thank you, Michael! An easy lesson tonight.
Hey Michael…giving this cool idea a try.
You are always full of fun, cool ideas…
Thanks!
You are the best…
Very useful!
Seeing if it worked…Thank you Michael 🙂
Seeing if it worked! If it did not, it was not your instruction ha ha. Thanks for the great tips.
Darn! User error.
Thank you for helping us all be a little bit cooler today.
You are welcome and looking cool, Holly!
well gravatar said I already have an account set-up so let’s see what it looks like
Hmm… I don’t see you. Maybe under a different email ? (that’s how it connects your photo)
OK, trying again. Hoping my fix worked.
Indeed! There you are.
