I just celebrated my company’s 12th anniversary.
Good news for me, but even better for you because I’m throwing a party … an ice cream party … and you’re invited.
Tuesday, July 17th, 2 -4PM, at Kimball Farm, Westford, Massachusetts.

It’d be worth the price of a plane ticket from Minneapolis/St. Paul just to meet this clever guy — and eat free ice cream. Hope you have a fun open house/birthday party. I’ll have one for you here instead! (And no, I’m not going to shave my head — you did say that was optional.)
We will miss you Beth! And yes, definitely optional on the head.
You gota love this guy! I wish I had transportation to drive up to Westford tomorrow from Hartford, would love to meet you face to face and have some free ice cream. Instead of wasting the invitation, what I will do is pass it on to others that I know that might be in a better position and decide to drive out there for the day.
Michael,
Congrats from a long time subscriber and fan! Well deserved success! I will be there virtually, enjoying virtual ice cream with my virtual head virtually shaved….wait no one wants to see that, not even virtually.
Best,
Alle
Virtual thanks to you Alle. And thanks for reading all these years!
Michael
Love the idea of free ice cream. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, so can you ship the ice cream to me instead? My 6 year old daughter would love to have some genuine American ice cream!
I would love to send you some, Douglas, but it would never get past the eagle-eyed people at the post office who always ask, “Is there anything in here that is fragile, liquid, hazardous or perishable?” I think ice cream may be all four!
But if you do get here one day, don’t miss Kimball Farm, where the party is being held. Truly terrific ice cream made right on the spot!
Ha ha …. love to come … but you’re such a long wwwwwway from me in Singapore. Living in the tropics is hhhhot Michael, so an ice cream (or two!) is tempting to cool down.
I wish you a Happy 12th Birthday Party … and many many more to come!
Regards & Many Happy Returns,
Ricky Lien
Ricky! Come on, hop on a plane and join us. You would certainly win the “longest distance traveled” prize, an award that has no monetary value but would earn you the envy of others.
And thanks on the nice wishes, I appreciate it.
Michael
Michael –
Some time ago, when I registered for your weekly newsletter, it was a wonderful piece of trenchant, witty, skilled writing. Its Friday afternoon publication gave new meaning to the old expression, TGIF.
More recently, however, you have become enamoured of the video medium. Please let me assure you that, as a “talking head” (shaved or otherwise), you are no match for your own abilities as a wordsmith. [And no, scriptwriting your videos does not count.]
There may be occasional topics that are particularly well suited to the video medium but, most I think are not. May I suggest limiting rhe videos to about once a month and leading a resurgence of the written word, at which you have demonstrated yourself a master.
Hello David! I’m not sure if I should be offended or honored but I do appreciate your thoughts (really).
I’m not sure how things will evolve. I’ll always do the every other week written piece (I’ve never done that weekly) but on the in between weeks, I’m going to keep mixing it up, often with video. Lots of people like the videos, it’s a more personal connection, and as you can probably tell, I like doing them!
Thanks for reading and writing (feel free to delete the videos when they arrive – just don’t tell me!).
Congratulations Michael on your 12th year! Blue Penguin is almost a teenager. Time flies when you do what you love! Just wait until the Penguin turns 16 and wants the car keys all the time.
I have been reading your newsletter for about 2 years now and really like your style my friend. I wish I could be there for the ice cream because it gets really hot down here in Huntsville, Alabama. I will have an ice cream next week for you here and celebrate with you that way.
Your “Likeable” Friend-
Donnie
Hello Donnie and thanks so much. My son’s in school in Memphis so I’ll wave to you next time I fly down there for a visit!
Thanks for the birthday wishes and enjoy your ice cream!
Congrats on your business birthday!!!! Wish I lived closer so I could come to your ice cream party! Hope you have fun and dont forget to post pics!
Va
Sorry you can’t join us Valerie! Pictures a plenty will be taken so we’ll be sure to post them. All the best, Michael
Hola!
Congrats from Argentina, Michael! I loved E-newsletters that work and this has been a great reading. I also enjoy the content you offer on your website. An ice cream celebration sounds a crazy in our winter season, but you will enjoy this in your summer environment. Thanks and felicitaciones!
Yanina!
Thank you for the well wishes. I’ll be dreaming of Argentina come February, when it is cold here again!
Michael
Michael, I just want to make it clear that I am not the “David” who was unhappy with your video messages. I am the “David” who is your older brother. I like the videos. Especially because it reminds me that I have a full head of hair (like our father), while you don’t (like our grandfather, mother’s side). So keep it up, and keep it shaved.
Excellent point!
And note to both “Davids”: Here’s an easy tip on how to automatically include your image with your blog posts, so we’ll be able to easily tell you two apart in the future (alas, the post is in video format!):

Congrats. Sundae’s included? If yes, I predict that business will go through the roof. I might be riding to Wachusett that day. If timing is right, I’ll swing by. And, if I swing by on my bike and am too tired to make it home, can I have a lift to the Hopkinton area after the party?
Bruce! I’ll buy you whatever you like (of an ice cream nature). And yes, it would be great to see you!
I’ll try to remember to throw my bike rack on the car since I assume we would need that; happy to transport you closer to civilization.
Mensch is not saying enough. I may end up riding directly rather than to Wachusett. I’ll let you know.
